ASA CONFLEX-Technical Data Sheet 

DESCRIPTION
Conflex is a flexible, powdered adhesive for wall and floor applications. Suitable over
concrete, cement render, screeds, fibrous cement sheeting, plasterboard and ASA
approved waterproof membranes. Conflex is recommended for all internal and external
applications including bathrooms, toilets, laundries, kitchens, driveways, decks, verandahs
and existing tiles. Conflex is suitable for bonding all types of tiles.

SURFACE PREPARATION
All surfaces must be clean, dry, and be free from dust, grease, wax, oil, laitance curing compounds and all
other contaminants likely to prevent the adhesive bonding. Highly porous substrates must be primed with ASA
Multiprime prior to tiling. Building boards must be fi xed in accordance with the manufacturer’s printed directions.
Concrete should be allowed to cure for at least 7 days and cement render 1 day prior to tiling. A wood fl oat finish is
preferred. Waterproof membranes must have dried in accordance with the printed directions on the packaging.
EXPANSION JOINTS
Movement joints must be incorporated in the tile layout in accordance with AS3958.1-1991 clauses 5.4.5.1 to 6.
MIXING
25kg of Conflex powder requires approximately 6 litres of water which produces 18 litres of mixed product. Add a
measured amount of water into a clean container and sprinkle Confl ex slowly into the liquid with constant stirring.
Eliminate lumps. Mix to a thick toothpaste consistency. Allow to stand for 2 minutes. Mix again. Adhesive is now
ready to use.
APPLICATION
Apply the mixed adhesive to the substrate using the appropriate notched trowel for the size of the tile being laid. A
minimum of 1mm bed thickness for walls and 3mm for floors must be achieved. Ensure that the bedded tiles are
fully supported by the adhesive with no voids underneath or behind. Lay tiles into the adhesive before it skins. The
adhesive may also need to be applied to the back of the tiles to accommodate required levels. Do not disturb tiles
until the adhesive has dried. Commence grouting after 24 hours when tile work is fi rm.
GROUTING
Use the appropriate ASA grout, allowing joint widths of 1.5mm to 6mm for walls and 3mm to 12mm for fl oors as
per AS3958.1-1991 clauses 5.4.6.
CLEAN UP
Conflex can be removed from the surface of the tiles using a damp cloth while the adhesive is still wet. Tools and
equipment can be cleaned with warm water and detergent prior to adhesive drying.
PACKAGING
14kg and 25kg paper bags.
POT LIFE
3.5 hours at 22°C and 50%RH Setting time: 24 hours at 22°C and 50%RH.

COVERAGE
1.5kg powder per m² using a 6mm x 6mm notched trowel and 3kg powder per m² using a 12mm x 12mm notched
trowel.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
This product is non-toxic but contains cement. Use good occupational health and safety practices to avoid personal
contact. ASA recommend the use of dustmasks, eye protection and wearing of gloves when handling. For more

SHELF LIFE
Unopened bags can be stored for up to 12 months in a cool, dry and weatherproof environment. Bags must be
stored off the fl oor.
LIMITATIONS
• Not suitable for tiling directly onto timber
• Not recommended for continuous water immersion applications, eg: swimming pools and spas etc.
• Not recommended for metal or plastic substrates.
