SUPERGLUE-Technical Data Sheet
DESCRIPTION
Superglue is a highly fl exible, premium quality, white cement based adhesive developed to bond most types of
ceramic tiles. Ideal for bonding monocottura and fully vitrifi ed tiles, as well as natural stone, marble, granite and
mosaic tiles (including glass) onto brickwork, existing tiles, cement render and concrete walls, fl oors and
swimming pools. Suitable for both internal and external applications.
SURFACE PREPARATION
All surfaces must be clean, dry, free from dust, grease, wax, paint, oil, laitance, curing compounds and all other contaminants likely to prevent
the adhesive bonding. Fibrous cement sheeting, plasterboard and particleboard must be fi xed in accordance to the manufactures directions.
Particleboard must be sanded prior to priming. Particleboard and highly porous substrates should be primed with ASA Multiprime prior to
tiling. Cement render/screeds must be allowed to cure for 1 day, concrete to be left with a wood fl oat fi nish and allowed to cure for at least 7
days. If tiling over existing tiles then they must be fi rm and stable. All care must be taken to remove any dust, sealers or other contaminants
prior to tiling. Mechanical abraiding is recommended. When laying mosaics in continuous immersion applications ensure that a minimum
contact of 80% of the adhesive to the back of the mosaic cube, not mesh/matting, (paper or other) or the mesh matting glue. ASA/Bostik
waterproofi ng membranes must have dried in accordance with the printed directions on the packaging.
TILING OVER PARTICLEBOARD FLOORING
Particleboards must be dry, sound and free from any movement. Must be a minimum 19mm thick with 450mm centres. Secure fl oor with
additional nails and wedges if necessary as per manufacturers instructions. Particleboards must be thoroughly sanded to expose a fresh
surface and must be primed with ASA Multiprime prior to tiling. Thoroughly remove all dust and friable material. A minimum of 4mm bed
thickness is required.
EXPANSION JOINTS
Movement joints must be incorporated in the tile layout in accordance with AS3958.1-2007.
MIXING
15kg of Superglue powder requires approximately 5.5 – 6 litres of water, which produces 17 litres of mixed product. Add a measured
amount of clean water into a clean container and sprinkle Superglue powder slowly into the liquid with constant stirring. Eliminate lumps.
Mix to a thick toothpaste consistency. Allow to stand for 2 minutes then remix. The adhesive is now ready to use.
APPLICATION
All workmanship must be carried out in accordance with AS3958.1 – 2007.
Apply the mixed adhesive to the prepared substrate using the appropriate notched trowel for the size of the tile being laid. A minimum of
1mm bed thickness for walls and 3mm for fl oors must be achieved. Ensure that the bedded tiles are fully supported by the adhesive with no
voids underneath or behind. Lay tiles into the adhesive before it skins. The adhesive may also need to be applied to the back of the tiles to
accommodate the required levels. Do not disturb tiles untill the adhesive has dried. Commence grouting after a minimum of 4 – 6 hours or
when tilework is fi rm.
DRYING
Allow adhesive to set for a minimum of 4 – 6 hours or when tile work is fi rm, prior to grouting or allowing foot traffi c. Allow between 24 – 48
hours when tiling over waterproofi ng membranes and non-porous substrates. Do not tile if temperatures are likely to drop to below 5°C or
exceed 30°C. For temperatures below 20°C allow the adhesive to cure for an extended period of time. If uncertain check to see if the
adhesive has set before allowing foot traffi c or grouting. For continuous imersion applications allow a minimum of 14 days.
GROUTING
Use the appropriate ASA grout with ASA Grout Additive as a total water replacement when tiling over fl exible substrates. Allow joint
widths of 1.5mm to 5mm for walls and 3mm to 15mm for fl oors as per AS3958.1-2007. Thoroughly clean the surface of the tiles to remove all
residues prior to the grout and Grout Additive drying.
CLEAN UP
Superglue can be removed from the surface of the tiles using a damp cloth while the adhesive is still wet. Tools and equipment can be
cleaned with warm water and detergent prior to adhesive drying.
